Getting up before the sun, an early night for the kids and yesterday's birthday cake today!

Today started MUCH earlier than I would have liked BUT it started well, so that's a plus! Lucy ( the dog! ) woke me at 5:40 and I felt "awake". Normally I have been going back to bed, falling back to sleep and being in my deep sleep cycle when the kids wake up less than an hour later. This results in me dragging my tired and less than perky self out of bed eventually and maybe being showered and dressed by noon. Don't get me wrong, I'm out of bed in plenty of time, but the day is already good and going without me and I feel like I am hanging on the back of a speeding train with no way on earth to stop it and do something so civilized as shower and perhaps clothe myself!!! This morning, this morning was different. I chose NOT to go back to bed. I made myself a cup of tea, toast and marmalade and sat at my computer and began to work! (Yeahy me! ) I got quite a lot done and felt good about the start I had made on the day. I also tackled some long annoying projects.... you know.... write two checks that have been waiting on me for LITERALLY MONTHS. Two. Checks. Phew. What a weight off my mind!! ;D One of these stupid checks is for the bank.... AT THE END OF MY ROAD. Seriously. If I go just about ANYWHERE I pass this bank. I needed to give them a lousy $10 and I could NOT get around to doing it. I was sure I'd just "pop in" there and drop it off. It's amazing how that never happens. I ended up spending 44c in postage just to get the damn thing there!! At least it's finally done!! That's all I'm saying!! ;D

So I worked some today, got showered and dressed BEFORE ELEVEN!! (hey, progress is progress people! ) and got back on the laundry wagon. Sort of. Just don't ask me about the laundry wagon, ok. I think one of the wheels fell off around Christmas time and it's not been the same since!

This afternoon I got an email from Lisa asking what we were up to today. I described the day to this point and asked what fun SHE had planned. Turned out nothing much so I emailed back.... "Come over. Bring cake." !!! She did, and she did!! ;D SWEET!!!! I don't think she intended to leave the whole thing at my house, but once Jack had picked up the remainder in one grubby fist and proceeded to TRY and put it all in his mouth, well, I just sort of presumed she might not want to take it home and share it with her family! ( well, not ALL the family anyway..!! ;P)

Lisa left just as darkness arrived along with the prospect of freezing rain. Jack did NOT want her to go home without him and BEGGED her to let him come too. He rummaged through the shoes until he found his boots, he grabbed his coat and followed her to the door and said "I'm READY!!" Awwwwwww!! Bless his heart!!! He just loves Lisa and wanted to go home with her!! Even my bloody DOG loves Lisa and sits on her lap UNINVITED when I have to bribe her with biscuits!! ( the dog, not Lisa.....!!) Anyhoo, Jack was soooo sad. Nothing I could think of to offer him would deter him from his goal which was to go home with Lisa. She of course HAD to leave so in the end just had to go despite his tears and pleas..... eeeesh. That's really hard. I promised him we'd go and see her on Thursday! Jackster was pretty high on birthday cake and junk food tonight and I couldn't understand why he wouldn't settle at the table and eat his dinner.... ah... it was gone 7:30. Turns out that's Jack's ideal bed time. I hustled him upstairs, popped him in the bath, washed his hair, whizzed him back out, blowdried his hair, brushed his teeth, "Shahmes" on and into bed in about 10 minutes flat. Jessie came up and got ready for bed too, I read them both A Wrinkle in Time and Jack was fast asleep before the chapter was through. 8:30pm and both kids are sleeping. Sweet!!!!

Hopefully I'll get an early night tonight and we can start this madness all over again tomorrow!!!;D

Toodles! ;D

I don't know if you've checked out that Happiness Project blog I've been enjoying lately, but you illustrated 2 of her insights: 1) a good way to give yourself an immediate happiness boost is to take care of a nagging task (like the bank cheque), and 2) doing what makes us happy doesn't always feel good (or make us feel happy) at the time, like getting out of bed early and working. Good for you!

I soooooo loved A Wrinkle in Time as a kid. Enjoy!
