Hmm. May need to do a little planning!<br />
<br />
Alicia's birthday is today so no doubt there will be some sort of frivolity and fun.... and probably wine. Wine's nice! :D<br />

We had a fun night last night with friends, playing Pictionary and eating too much yummy food! This morning I have stated the intention of doing Yoga every day for 365 days! One day at a time, right?<br />
<br />
Today I did this quick Yoga workout<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
It is actually only 6 minutes or so, so nice and quick but a good start! I followed that with 10 minutes of meditation (with Millie climbing up and helping herself to nurse, Jackster fighting Zombies on Minecraft and the dog chewing aggressively on her toes. It's a trick, but I managed at least 30 seconds of mindful breathing! :D <br />
<br />
And now, I think, a Friends marathon should begin! Thank YOU Netflix!<br />
<br />
<br />Gorgeous.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10735808575811576904noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13136613.post-18396724281493334292014-12-23T20:32:00.000-06:002014-12-23T20:32:17.539-06:00Day Twenty Three Fine fine fine!Today's Act was at the bookmobile. Man I love that place!! :D A quick library stop with people who are SO friendly and helpful! They find books for me they think I will like, they are just awesome. We've done act of kindness here in the past, hiding dollar bills in children's books. This year was a lot simpler. Basically I handed them the cash and asked them to apply it to the next person who has library fines. I have felt the pain of library fines and would like to help! :D Not terribly exciting and no pic to share, but there ya go, that's what I did!! :D<br />
<br />
In other news we baked the gingerbread ready for decorating today, I cleaned all the dog paw prints off the basement floor and stairs ( I wish it would just FREEZE already instead of making the back yard a mud bath for the dogs to wade in ) and I did a boat load of laundry. Tomorrow I'm not planning on doing much other than decorating the gingerbread houses and family game night. Simples. :D<br />
<br />
Hope you had a great day! Gorgeous.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10735808575811576904noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13136613.post-30478799672844665372014-12-22T23:09:00.002-06:002014-12-22T23:12:36.631-06:00Day Twenty Two. Trader Joe'sWe had a two thirty appointment today, which I thought was a coincidence because it was at the Orthodontist... (tooth hurty....!) and of course there were a "couple of little errands" that I needed to run as well. ... (The grocery store, Michael's craft store ( AGAIN! ) Trader Joe's.... ( AGAIN! ) and Target, always Target. Jackster needed to buy some gifts so he raided his "Pinky pank" and brought all the cash he had. I, being the morning person, rather than an afternoon or evening person, that I am thought it would be perhaps better to leave early and run our errands BEFORE the Ortho rather than after so we could go straight home in time for me to do chores and clean up a bit. Har har. We did a rather amazing job though I do have to say. We left the house around 12:30, Millie was wearing clothes (albeit no mi' as we had lost them somehow) and Jack was dressed with socks AND shoes ( though he wore his coat UPSIDE DOWN and we found out at bedtime he had worn his jeans OVER his sweats all day long... ) **insert long suffering sigh here**<br />
<br />
Anyway, we left at 12:30 and we live a good 15 minutes from the stores. We went first to the grocery store to buy candies to decorate our gingerbread houses (if and when I ever get around to baking the things!) .... the kids had great fun selecting candies to decorate with and Jack always loves putting the things on the scale and printing out the labels. I remembered back to last year when it was very hard for him to remember three numbers to type in and now he did it with very little trouble. Yay! I let them get whatever they chose without whittling about amount or price. They are sensible and only got what they thought they would need and I really appreciated not having to overly monitor the situation! After the grocery store we headed to the Mall to Michael's and Trader Joe's. I parked up by Traders and left the kids in the car whilst I ran in to Michael's. I "needed" some cording so we could make some essential oil diffusing necklaces.... someday.... Lord only knows when I will have time to do that.... but we have what we need should a sudden blizzard ensue and we were stuck in the house for a month or so. On my return to the car the kids indicated I could go to Trader's alone too... alrighty then! Much quicker that way! I sped in and picked up one or two things ( soup, oats, an Orchid plant and some truffles....) I had decided to do our Act of Kindness there today and the Orchid and Truffles were going to be it! :D<br />

<br />
Once I'd paid for the items I wondered who I was going to give them to. An idea rather quickly occurred to me as I left the store. A huge line of cars had formed as people were trying to leave and enter the parking lot. I spotted one car with a lady at the wheel. I approached her car tapping on the passenger window and indicating she should lower it! ( Obviously I looked kind and happy, not in the least intimidating!) I passed the flower and the chocs through the window and wished her a Merry Christmas and saying she had been chosen to receive our random act of kindness! She was so happy and wished me a Merry Christmas and a big Thank You! I was pretty happy with it and hurried back to the car... where I twisted my ankle and fell in a wet heap in the parking lot right by my van. I was thinking the kids would wonder what the heck happened so I suddenly POPPED back up in a sort of TA DAH movement knowing also that the woman I had just "blessed" was watching too!! I'm such an arse!! Ah well.... no lasting harm done!! <br />
<br />
Last trip before the ortho was Target and we all went into the store. Can you believe we were in and out in less than 15 minutes COMPLETE with all of Jack's purchases?? :D The dollar section comes in mighty handy when you have only 8 dollars to spend!! Quick stop at the ortho for a minor repair and then home to attempt a clean up, nurse a toddler, read some book and make a rather delicious dinner that everyone loves! Jack had FIVE helpings ( though he IS a growing boy! )<br />
<br />
Only a couple of days to go now! I hope this blog has inspired you to maybe try an act or two of your own. I forgot to say as I was checking out of Trader's I explained to the guy behind the counter what we were doing. <br />
"How do you do that?" he asked. <br />
"Um....???" I didn't explain. <br />
"I mean, is it some sort of organization???" he went on. <br />
I told him that anyone can perform an act of kindness at any time! They don't have to cost money, they don't even need to be much of an effort. Return someone's shopping cart for them. Help carry groceries. Shovel someone's sidewalk. Bake a neighbor some cookies. ... it's easy and honestly, you'll feel so good about it, you'll find opportunities for kindness everywhere you turn after a while. Try it, it's catchy!Gorgeous.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10735808575811576904noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13136613.post-25255457656601364742014-12-21T22:26:00.002-06:002014-12-21T22:26:32.987-06:00Day 21 for the birdsToday was.... um.... interesting...! I may or may not have defied the universe and went ahead to take three kids and three dogs to the dog park resulting in a chipped tooth for me and some poor guy taking a tumble and almost ALMOST rolling into the water at the park. Not to mention a little girl who cried THE ENTIRE way around, the mud the blood and the beer. ... well the mud anyway. I tried to salvage the morning by taking us all to Runza for hot chocolate only to find out that the main part was closed and only the drive through was open and I'd come in the wrong angle for the drive through.... blah blah blah... we went to U Stop for cocoa instead and headed home pretty beat. Hubby had arrived before me having been out with his bud. He'd lit the fire and put on the kettle for tea. He also provided me with chocolate and told me he couldn't see the chip in my tooth. He is a Good Man. The day improved as I warmed my cockles, read my book and nursed my youngest. Hubby later took Jess out to do a little more shopping and they stopped by the bird seed store on the way home where Jess did our Act of Kindness today. <br />
<br />
<br />
We love the heck out of this store, the people are lovely and though the seed is more expensive, it's really good quality and fresh. We've never had one complaint from the birds! (hah!) I love to feed the birds, I find it so satisfying. They come right to our front window and we can watch them for hours. Anyway, Jess just gave the money to the man behind the counter and explained it was an act of kindness and she wanted to pay for the next person's seed... or at least some of it! Anyone who feeds the birds is good people in my book!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After I took some time to finish wrapping my gifts ( did ya hear that?? I'm DONE wrapping gifts and it's only the 21st!! ) and a light dinner, hubby and I went out for a drive to look at the Christmas lights. We figured out a few years ago that the kids don't really enjoy it so it is pointless to make them come. They are happy to stay home and wait for our return. Even Millie, when I said Daddy and I were going for a ride at first said "ME!!" so I said, "Ok! You want to come for a ride to look at Christmas lights??" ... and she said "NooooOOOO!" LOL!! She hung home with the big kids instead! Hubby and I toured the lights and swung by Starbucks for the obligatory Peppermint Mocha and got to spend a little time enjoying the music and the scenery. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now... Hook is playing on Netflix, the kids are sleeping and I am going to do a couple of last minute bits and pieces and it's off to bed for me too! Night!</div>
<br />Gorgeous.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10735808575811576904noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13136613.post-23927449199197286372014-12-20T23:10:00.004-06:002014-12-20T23:10:37.367-06:00Day 20.... Give a kid a Cactus day!Rex and I always do our shopping on a Saturday morning. Usually early early early to beat the crowds and to allow us to then have the rest of the weekend "free"! :D<br />
<br />
This morning we had planned to leave about 7am, go to the bagel place, have some coffee and plan our "attack"! ... so naturally we woke up at 8:45. And then faffed about. So that it was 9:30 when Rex called and found out the hair appointment he thought he'd missed yesterday was actually this morning.... at 10.... Gah. I had him pour my cuppa tea into my to go mug and he and I said bye to the kids and hustled out. 3 minutes down the road and I realized I had left me tea at home... 4 minutes out and I realized I hadn't had breakfast!! Great start!! :D<br />
<br />
We made it to the appointment only a couple of minutes late and I face timed with my kids whilst I waited!! I hate to run out on them first thing in the morning if we haven't really had time to say howdy!! :D "Morning Jess! Watch your siblings for me! Thanks for making Tea, see you later!!"<br />
<br />
After the hair appointment it was on to the grocery stores which we at full swing and full capacity! Everyone seemed to be in fine spirits though and it's not like we were in a big hurry! I decided to do my Random Act in the grocery store and thought I would buy some flowers for someone today. Whilst I was checking out the flowers and plants I spotted a young girl (perhaps 8 or 10 years old) and an older boy (maybe an older brother or possibly her young father) and they were checking out the floral display. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
The girl was pointing at various things and off she went into the refrigerated section with all the flowers. I asked the man who was with her what she was up to and he said "looking for something for Mom" :) Awww...! She came out of the fridge with a small bunch of yellow tulips and her brother / dad said ..." uummm....." ! I left them to it and went a picked out a pretty pink Christmas Cactus. I have one that flowers every year at this time and it's lived for years now (if I can do it anyone can! I have a black thumb! Plants tremble at my name!) and my Mum has one that's over 40 years old! Christmas Cactus plants are a good investment in my opinion!! Anyway I picked one out and also a package of pink gum... because... gum...!! I paid for it all and popped the receipt back into the wrapper of the plant and went to track down the two I'd met earlier. I found them soon enough and caught the girl's attention. <br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
"This is for you!" I said. "It needs some water and some love but should last you a long time and will make some pretty flowers!" <br />
<br />
She was so thankful I was really touched. She seemed genuinely pleased and seemed to be very happy about the gum too! :D <br />
<br />
Anyway, there ya go... today's act!<br />
<br />
After that Hubby and I went on to more stores... I went to Michael's and was able to pick up a bottle of glitter glue, get to the check out ( no line! ) and out again in only 3 minutes! Now, if you ever shop at Michael's you will know why hubby totally missed me walking out the store as he sat in the car looking for me! He was imagining I would be an age! I've NEVER been in there without a line before!!<br />
<br />
Trader Joes next... and wine sampling! Great idea on an empty stomach! Honestly what must they think of me in there!!<br />
<br />
Panera Bread for lunch then home to my babes one of whom was COVERED in tomato soup!<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
Tonight we sat and watched The Santa Clause movie... somehow watching a movie with a 15 year old, a reluctant 12 year old, a crazy 2 year old, 3 dogs and 2 cats is not as relaxing as one might hope. Dogs want out, dogs want in, baby wants attention, baby needs diaper changing, baby needs to poop, dogs want to sit on you, dogs want to wrestle with each other, 12 year old wants hot chocolate, hubby wants coffee, baby wants milk, baby wants to make you pretend to drink a cup of epsom salts she's poured for you as long as you then go "PooOOOooeeee" and make spitting noises.... over and over and over again.... <br />
<br />
So, yeah, we "watched" the movie and then put the kids to bed. (I should be clear that Jess of course puts herself to bed...!! LOL! )<br />
<br />
Now it's time for hubby and I to have a little peace and quiet and the animals have all worn themselves out too. <br />

<br />
<br />
Cool eh?? :D I made the snowman one for Millie but in true Baker form she refused to eat it because it had a face. Jack refused to eat a Mickey Mouse one some lovely lady made for him at a restaurant once when he was about Millie's age!! LOL!! Oh how we laughed!!<br />
<br />
<br />
So we had a very leisurely start this morning....... waaaaay more TV than I will ever admit, thank the lord for Netflix and streaming Curious George that's all I can say! I did provide ample snacks ( and way too much chocolate and ice cream), toys and books.... !! Eventually I got myself moving, and made two big batches of Gingerbread dough whilst listening to a podcast of Serial. ( not heard of it? find it, download it. It's awesome!)<br />
<br />
Millie helped me stir..... sort of.....<br />

Tonight Jess and I went to the Stage Theatre here in town to see our friends in the production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. It was such fun and so well done. We like to read the book every Christmas since our friend Alicia introduced it to us some years ago. It's just so funny. We decided to do our Act of Kindness there and after we'd collected our tickets we approached the snack bar and basically bought candy for the next 14 people in line!! :D Fun fun fun!! :D<br />

A quickie!Tonight's post will be short and sweet... but probably not... I just got back from a late night Christmas shopping / date escapade with hubby and have put the kids to bed and got the lunch ready and prepared tomorrow's smoothie and now want to write a fairly quick post before I go to bed! :D har!<br />
<br />
So... here ya go! Today's Act of Kindness is sort of two fold.. or even rather three or four... To start with we sent 3 bags of fudge with 3 gift cards to Jack's para's and his teacher today. But I forgot to take a photo so it didn't happen. Boo. Of course it did, but, you know. Anyway, we also had a bag of cookies spare from the other day's baking binge and when our lovely UPS fella showed up, well, guess where the cookies went? :D He's SUCH a nice man and has been our UPS guy for years and years. He's just lovely. He really deserves more than cookies, but that's what we had, so that's what he got! :D<br />
<br />
Picture...!! :D<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of course you can't see the cookies... but there ya go. Trust me, he got 'em! :D </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So then what else happened today? Well I had two little girls here for Daycare today along with Millie. They are such LOVELY girls, it's really a piece of cake to watch them and I love doing it! Here they are playing together...</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I like the above pic because my house looks relatively clean and tidy. Don't be fooled! :D It wasn't TOO long after this was taken that Millie took an entire cup of Ovaltine and dumped it over her entire body necessitating a bath. She loves baths so I suspect that was all part of her plan! :D ( and yes, she is watching Frozen. Again. Money well spent on Amazon I can tell ya! ) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Later in the day Mary and Charlotte came over and the girls ALL went downstairs to play together and make a movie! I was left alone and with so much to do... so I did this instead! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At five o'clock we were all sitting watching Winnie the Pooh's Christmas ( or something!) and the little girl's grandpa came to pick her up. At 5:30 Lilly dog arrived for her Christmas visit whilst her lovely owner goes home for the holidays and at 5:40 hubby arrived from work ready to take me shopping at the mall! As I said earlier we got back about 10ish, then it was hustle the kids to bed and get my chores done for morning and a "quick" post... how did I do?!!? :D</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

</div>
Today started out BUSY!! :D We agreed to meet my lovely friend Diana and her beautiful daughter at the skating rink again today which necessitates an early start from our house. But first breakfast, the getting to the bus of Jack, getting Millie up and fed and persuaded into clothes, seeing Hubby off to work, putting the dogs out, feeding the dogs, putting the dogs out again, washing the dishes, changing my shoes, finding Millie's boots, putting the big dog in the crate and putting the garbage out for pick up. And right away that's where todays act of Kindness came in! The garbage men! We treated them to a bag of cookies and yes, another Starbucks gift card each. Honestly I don't know what people did without Starbucks gift cards! I mean, if you don't drink coffee they have tea or hot chocolate or cold drinks and food... I really don't go there very often, I'm not a huge coffee drinker and I don't like a lot of additives in my drinks BUT I do love a Peppermint Mocha when the season calls for it!! <br />

After everything was said and done we hightailed it to the van, this time making sure Millie had her boots ( but evidently forgetting her Mi' (mittens) ) and headed across the town to the ice rink. The instructor had brought a pair of skates from home for Jess to wear and offered them to us for a bargain price at the end of the lesson. I snatched them up and insisted Jess take the box too... hey, I can wrap 'em and use it for another Christmas gift! Hah! How fun to have your own pair of ice skates... I always wanted skates when I was a kid but we never had the chance to go skating really. </div>

We went by Target on the way home to pick up some bits and pieces (including Yoga pants which were on sale. I accidentally came home with a "skinny" pair ... har har... THAT wouldn't work... I look bloody HORRENDOUS in skinny yoga pants! Like a pair of toothpicks with a big fat ass. )</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When we arrived home at our front door the dogs started barking and I said... "hmm... Yogi sounds a bit too close to the door to be in her dog crate." Sure enough... she had busted out!! Happily she hadn't destroyed anything other than the blanket that had been in the crate with her... Yikes. I was very grateful the curtains, the tree and the dining room chairs were still intact! </div>

Millie insisted I sit with her and give her some "side" so I did whilst Jess and I watched The Incredibles together. Predictably Millie fell asleep for her nap so I took the chance and shot back to Target to switch out my pants! Terrible waste of gas I'm sure, but I REALLY wanted to change them. LOL!! Don't judge me please!! LOL! As it is I haven't even tried them on yet! I guess I'm afraid to incase they look awful on me! It's a record! (she DID try really hard to pull off her socks but they weren't socks, they were tights and she could NOT get them off from under the poppers on her vest and her jeans!! Recycling dude and a Christmas Tree dilemma.So today was another easy one for us! I baked a batch of oatmeal and choc chip cookies and put them into gift bags. I then added a $5 Starbucks card and set the cookies and card out for the poor fella who has to pick up our recycling every week! He's a nice guy and very conscientious, I hope he enjoys the cookie and a nice warm drink somewhere... MAN it was cold out this morning! :D<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The next project was to decorate the Christmas tree... now... some might say I'm a bit weird.... (shut up you) because I like to have all my chores done before I do any "fun" stuff so I wanted to wash dishes, make the beds, run the laundry etc etc before I could decorate the tree but Millie wanted to nurse nurse nurse and poor Jess was desperate to get started on it... I promised I would be ready by noon. I sort of was but just could NOT get motivated. I wasn't sure where I was going to put the tree ( we usually have huge ones but this year because of the puppy it is much smaller ) and we have enough decorations for two seven foot tall trees and this year we have one about four foot tall so we have to decide what to put on and what to leave off... you know, silly ass first world problems like that. So we began what ended up being a really complicated rigmarole. Firstly I strung the tree with colored lights and then we chose a theme ( we don't usually have much of a theme ) .. blue and silver and white decorations. We put the ornaments on, stood back, and Jess said we should probably have white lights rather than colored to go with the silver.... so we took everything off again ( one plus of a teensy tree!) and re strung it with white lights. Put all the ornaments back on... hmm... now if we set the tree next to the Eiffel tower with it's LED white lights our tree lights look like yellow teeth. </div>

Took everything off again and put on white LED lights.... yuk. Too big, too garish. At this point I gave up and slung the lights over the tree and quit. I decided to wait until Hubby got home to see what he suggested. We went through various scenarios including going out and buying new lights etc etc. Finally, after a little pity party on my behalf we came up with a new plan. Or rather I opened my eyes to what Christmas is really about. I had been totally caught up in making the tree "look pretty" so I wouldn't let the kids really hang any ornaments or anything... they could PASS me them.. ( what is WRONG with me ) and I'd even said to hubby that if I let them do it "they would wreck it" !! I KNOW!! I SAID that....! But anyway, as I said, I did come around and realize that the BEST way to decorate that tree was to put the colored lights BACK on and let the kids totally do it themselves with NO help from me at all! </div>

Neither snow nor rainToday's Act was an easy one and one I enjoyed doing. Our mail carrier, Becky, is a lovely lady. She's so friendly and kind. When Millie was born she and Cathy, the post mistress, both came over to have a look at her! She leaves candy for the kids on Valentine's day AND ON THEIR BIRTHDAYS!! (How does she know it's their birthday?!) .. so to give her a little surprise was a no brainer for me! I'd cooked up another batch of fudge ( oh fudge how we love thee! ) and put it into a pretty bag and then into a nice dish. That along with a greetings card and a small Christmas tip was tucked with the mail into our mail box. A little something extra for her on her rounds this morning!<br />

<br />
<br />
The rest of the day was spend fuddling around. Sometimes it's hard to get moving on a Monday following the sloth of Sunday. Today was one of those days! I had a lot to do, and got only a little done. Never mind. Progress is progress, right?? :D I got the beds stripped, changed and washed, I ordered a BUNCH of Christmas gifts online, I made dinner (boxed Mac and Cheese... shhhh!!) which the heathens scarfed like I never feed them! Believe me if I'd slaved for hours in the kitchen over some exotic gourmet dinner ( or heck, something with more than one pan...!) you can bet they'd have turned up their noses at it! But box Mac and Cheese ( albeit G/F ) was a DELIGHT! Two whole boxes, three kids... **blink and you missed it!!** <br />
<br />
So there ya have it! Tonight it's blowing a freezing gale but none of the promised snow. I really would enjoy just a little of it, just to make it feel a little more seasonal. Hubby has offered to do the dishes if I wanted an early night... DO I want an EARLY NIGHT?!!? Heck yeah! So at 8:30 at night Millie and I are headed up the apples and pears! (I hope to read a little in bed, SUCH a treat!)<br />
<br />
Catch y'all on the flip side!!Gorgeous.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10735808575811576904noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13136613.post-89791730635361411382014-12-14T19:19:00.001-06:002014-12-14T19:19:15.254-06:00Day Fourteen ... What goes around..!Well today started in the 50's, cloudy and drizzly. An odd start for a winter day but there ya have it! I'd promised the kids that I would take them to the dog park so they could run with the dogs again and I had also promised to take them to the mall so they could so some Christmas shopping and I had ALSO promised myself we would get the Christmas tree today. Hubby went out this morning with his bud for his usual Sunday morning breakfast so I got the kids ready, two sets of clothes each, two pairs of shoes each, three kids two dogs and one Harried Momma to go. We went first to the dog park and everyone had a great time. The puppy is getting the hang of the place now and knows where we are when we pull in. She was barking and rocking the dog crate no sooner had I turned off the engine! She was in puppy paradise!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was pretty muddy which is why I suggested the two pairs of shoes etc.... one puppy got a little friendly with Jack.... LOL!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So from the dog park it was straight on to the mall. We live out of town so it didn't make sense to drive home and drive back when the mall is only a few minutes from the park. We gave the dogs some water, put Yogi back in her crate with a chew and a blanket and we changed our clothes and shoes to look a TOUCH more presentable for Christmas shopping! ... To the MALL!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I like the Mall at Christmas time but only for the atmosphere. SHOPPING at this time of year is disgusting to me!! I hate if I don't know what I'm looking for and I wander aimlessly from store to store dragging unwilling children and nursing sore feet. Bah! We wandered around a bit as a family and then Jess said she'd like to go her own way for a while so we agreed to meet up in thirty minutes by the food court. Jack, Millie and I pressed on in search for a gift for Daddy... but instead we chose Runza fries and a salad! We met Jess and all had a snack to keep our spirits up!! :D </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Well we were having a pretty good time considering! We really expected it to be a lot more stressful and I think if we had stayed very much longer it would have begun to get that way so we boogied on out ready for home. As we were leaving we spotted the carousel and the large line of folks waiting their turn. I made a quick enquiry as to how much the tickets were ( $2 each ) and so explained about our random acts and told the lady I would like to buy the next 7 tickets. We quickly ducked out of the way as the lady began to explain the deal to the customers. I hope they had fun!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So off we went home. The dogs got in the door and flaked out and we all pretty much did the same. I made another batch of fudge ready for our trip to the tree farm and after a while we gathered ourselves up ready to go again. We go to this farm every year and headed off excited to pick out this year's tree. Imagine our chagrin when we encountered THIS....</div>

SOLD OUT?!?! :( Boo. So we drove off to the big city and wow.... there are hardly any trees anywhere. Those that remain were cut in SEPTEMBER ( can someone tell me why they have to be cut in September??? ) and were SO expensive.... So anyway. We came home with nothing but are making a new plan. We haven't quite figured it out yet, but we will. I'm sure we'll have a tree by the middle of next week. One way or the other! </div>

We tend to get pretty much the same stuff and have it down to a fine art but we also have lots of fun clowning around, tossing bags of frozen foods across the aisles to hubby is a common thing to catch us doing and the folks at Trader Joe's love to see us play. We often stop for a coffee or maybe pick up some lunch, it's kind of a date and we enjoy our time together. today was no exception. We made several stops today and even did a little Christmas shopping to try and get into the spirit. 60 degrees in mid December makes it hard for me to feel Christmassy that's for sure! Seriously! I sent all the girls outside to bounce on the trampoline and Millie didn't even have to put on Clo' !! :D They had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the lovely temps. I went out later in the afternoon and was really surprised at the number of people walking around town and just sitting outside enjoying the warm temps!! :D<br />

As for me I spent the day writing Christmas cards. It probably would have been fun to have counted how many I sent..... but I didn't...!! :D Suffice it to say it was quite the stack when I took it to the post office! We racked our brains trying to think of today's random act and then an ad in the mail inspired me. Today we wrote a Christmas card to Hearts United for Animals, a non kill shelter in Nebraska. We added our donation and a thank you note for all they do. What a wonderful organization. </div>

I wish it could be more. <br />
<br />
No helper cat tonight... he's still under the couch!! :D Silly muppet.<br />
<br />
And now, I've got all my chores done, my blog is written and once I've got Millie to bed the night is my own! I wonder if I'll sleep it away on the couch or maybe I'll watch a movie!!.... Whooot! Friday nights!! LOL!Gorgeous.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10735808575811576904noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13136613.post-29682070104409558892014-12-11T20:13:00.000-06:002014-12-11T20:13:06.099-06:00Day Eleven!Day Eleven! Already?! Oh man...now I'm starting to get that little butterfly in my stomach. The one that says.... You DO realize you haven't bought / ordered one gift yet... not one... and some of them have to go to ENGLAND.... you know... that butterfly! :D<br />
<br />
Anyway, we had a fun day! The usual toddler type amusement. We have a little girl who comes to be with us on Thursday and Friday so she and Millie played and watched Frozen ( again.. ) I baked a few more Christmas cakes for hubby's work folks with more than a little help from the neighbors since it turns out I had run out of eggs and cinnamon. But I didn't notice them both at the same time of course... that would be too easy!! ... Gah!<br />
<br />
We managed to fit in our act of kindness today. This one was an easy one in theory! We had a bunch of Christmas themed scratch cards and wanted to send them to random folks! We were going to go through the phone book shouting STOP at random places and then mail a Christmas card containing a scratch card and a little message to whomever we picked from the page. Great idea! Only.... no phone books. I recycle them as we never use them!... almost never! OK so we'll use Google maps and a die. ... only Google maps kept crashing..... OMG!! I finally got it loaded and we used the die to pick whether to turn left or right and which side of the road, which house number etc! It was kind of fun! A TAD time consuming, kind of fun and TOTALLY random!! :D<br />
<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So there ya have it! Today's Act!! I popped down to the post office and dropped off the cards as I had to go to the local store to get (more) eggs. I totally had spaced off that I needed egg whites to make the royal icing frosting!! Sometimes I worry I'll forget the kids!! Har!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
OK, well no Helper Cat pics tonight... he hides under the couch when we have company and Jess's friend is here for the night soooo.... You'll just have to imagine him!! LOL!!</div>

No Fudging!Today started out early and fast. We had our usual breakfast routine (which is pretty involved and you'll either think I'm crazy or bragging so you don't need to hear all the details! ) ... Got my boy off to the bus stop and then came home to quickly wash all the dishes and clear up and get some clothes on Millie before heading across Lincoln to the Ice Rink! :D The lovely Diana managed to persuade me to sign Jess up for an ice skating lesson and basically Jess and Diana's daughter had the whole rink to themselves for an hour!! It was fabulous! If I didn't have miss Millie to watch I'd have been out there in a heart beat. The instructor was fabulous and in no time Jess was out in the middle of the rink like she was born to it! Next week the instructor said she'd see if she had some skates small enough for Millie!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anyway, after all the excitement of skating I made a quick stop at the grocery store and also the library then we headed on home. Millie wanted to watch Frozen ( can't think why?! ) and I sat and <strike>read my books </strike> napped a little. It was rather pleasant I must say. Anyway as the afternoon wore on I made a batch of fudge and bagged some up along with some Candied Pecans we'd made yesterday. I drove into our little town and dropped some fudge off to the mail lady and the rest of to the city office next door. A very quick and easy but also quite tasty act of kindness! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I took the dogs for a lovely long walk this evening and checked out the lights in town as they started to flick on. Some beautiful displays out there. I returned home in time to make dinner after which Jack allowed Millie to sit on his lap as they both played Toca Kitchen together on the iPad. If you know Jack you know that this is the biggest news of the day. It's a BIG deal folks!</div>

So now the house is quiet. I fell asleep putting Millie to bed.. again... and I had wanted to put a loaf of bread in the oven to cook for tomorrow's breakfast so I'm going to be up a while as it bakes. I may not manage to stay awake the whole time... **yawn!**</div>

<br />Gorgeous.http://www.blogger.com/profile/10735808575811576904noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13136613.post-89127637834055088422014-12-09T22:55:00.001-06:002014-12-09T22:55:27.696-06:00Day nine ... Hitting the Target. It was time for me to get my hair trimmed. I took Jess and Millie and dropped them off at Target and stopped at the local Cost Cutters to get my locks lashed. I had a really nice girl cut my hair... about the first thing she told me was she was wearing a wig ( nice long brown hair ) and under that was bright pink shortness!! ( I love pink hair and had pink hair myself for much of last year! ) She asked where I was from, I said England...her last name is England... she loves the English accent ( well, really, who doesn't !? ) and would love to go visit. She told me all about some cool markers she used to draw on her mirror ( I want some! ) and told me the name of the place to get cheap wigs! When she'd finished with my hair she rang me up at the check out and I gave her an 80% tip. She was pretty happy about that and said "It's because my name is England, isn't it!?" ( Maybe...!!) ( It wasn't an expensive hair cut! )<br />
<br />
Meanwhile in Target Millie and Jess were having an adventure of their own! We'd set out 10 one dollar bills and written a little note on each one. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Jess and Millie hid them all over the store for people to find. I'd hoped Jess might have been able to take pics but apparently Millie was being rather a handful. ( really? Millie?? Nah....!! ) When I met them in the store Jess was getting over heated and fed up with chasing the toddler hither and yon so whilst she went to purchase a little something for her brother, I thought a small Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks might cheer her frazzled soul. I headed up to the bar to get her one (and me, I won't lie) and there was a lady there in front of me on the phone and rifling through her wallet to find a couple of dollars for her coffee. "I'll get this!" I said.. and so I bought her coffee for her. She was very grateful and surprised. It was literally only a couple of dollars but makes a difference in someone's day. I'm telling you, these acts of kindness are totally addictive!<br />
<br />
Later that afternoon the book mobile came to town. I wanted to go by and see if I could find a book I always read at Christmas time. I can never think of the name but it's always there for me to read! I took Miss Millie along with me at her request (she even went to put on clothes for me!) and I was happy to see that my friend Rebecca was driving the bus today. She said she was so glad I came along as she wanted to tell me something. Apparently at the previous stop a teacher had come on the bus and said that in the book she had checked out she had found a dollar bill with a note on it... !! From us! Rebecca explained to the teacher all about our acts of kindness and said that she should do something good with it to pass it along. The teacher was excited and said she certainly would. Rebecca and I couldn't remember if it had been one or even TWO years ago since we put bills in the books, but the awesome thing is that one dollar bill was still in action even today. I remember the kids having such fun picking out books to hide money in, we had a ball. And then we would think about how surprised children would be to find money in their books.. I'm not making myself very clear, it's late and I fell asleep putting Millie to bed, but I'm trying to get at how lasting an act of kindness is. One dollar, one or two years ago and it's still having an impact today.<br />
<br />
<br />
And now, one more act of kindness for the day.... Helper Cat... having his chin scratched!!! <br />

One for the kids!Today was pretty darn productive... at least...on and off anyway! It certainly wasn't productive from the get go, but on reflection I got quite a lot done. Prepare for a stack of photos! :D<br />
<br />
Let's start out with one from breakfast shall we? :D I just LOVE how Millie has laid her napkin nicely across her lap! Makes me warm inside. <br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Her buddy from next door came over to play and they wasted NO time getting right down to it. We had snacks, they JUMPED around all over the place and laughed their little tails off. Millie is SO lucky to have a girl the same age as her living right next door. I know Jess and I are totally jealous of Millie's fortune! They enjoy each other's company already, I do hope it continues as they grow older! </div>

We did a little arts and crafts~ing using this genius idea I saw on Pinterest (probably, isn't everything to be found on there?!?) ... a clothes peg holding a pom pom for easy painting! Make them all the same color and coordinate them with the paint..?? Even easier!! :D The girls made these lovely Christmas trees and then painted some more and more and more!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We follow ( ahem, rather loosely sometimes) the Flylady method of house cleaning and organization. I honestly swear by it, that and Minimalism! The less you have, the less there is to clean! Anyway today is whole house cleaning day so that means stripping the beds, vacuuming the whole house, cleaning the windows and mirrors, emptying all trash cans etc etc. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsm0brpsGLNzOoQbPVm3P8H55i-dT5BPJx_IMvm7qRb6ifeklAdzuSe8W0mcfPL1lbBqxtMIW_9Zw1BnkkLm5IXNdnGUx472nrAuzUJvamRw0o3A6RC__pwGJCP8b3B5b5mLtJ_A/s1600/10834941_10152435116350740_5626246342169076654_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsm0brpsGLNzOoQbPVm3P8H55i-dT5BPJx_IMvm7qRb6ifeklAdzuSe8W0mcfPL1lbBqxtMIW_9Zw1BnkkLm5IXNdnGUx472nrAuzUJvamRw0o3A6RC__pwGJCP8b3B5b5mLtJ_A/s1600/10834941_10152435116350740_5626246342169076654_o.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
... Can you spot my awesome hose repair here???? I went to vacuum this morning and the thing was making a really scary hissing noise! I came to find that the hose was torn almost completely through!! Quick! To the Duct Tape!! :D I wrapped it up nice and tight and Voila! I can vacuum again. Good thing too. I narrowly avoided getting a blasted Vacuum cleaner for Christmas. Some one would have gotten hurt!! :D</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Anyway... onward and upward! ... So then it was time to bath the dog! Remember the trip to the park yesterday!?! I had not realized just how FILTHY the little dog got !!! OMG. Jess ran a nice deep and warm tub full of water for us in the basement sink and I stuck her in it. For the first time ever she was wagging her tail as I bathed her! I think she really enjoyed how warm the water was! I actually took a pic of all the MUD left in the sink when we were done but it's on Jess's iPod and she's in bed so you'll just have to imagine a sink so gross you are shocked! And also imagine a picture of a REALLY blurry dog as she ran off from us once we had dried her off!! Hilarious! The big dog was chasing her all over the house as she wasn't convinced it was actually Lucy who came back upstairs! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
So anyway, down to today's Act! :D I decided to go for a walk as it was a ridiculous 51 degrees this afternoon. We should have all gone really but one thing and another.... you know how it is. If you don't have kids or you don't know how it is, just guess. It just is. Trust me. Anyway, off I went, taking BIG stretchy leg strides and breathing in deep breaths! I headed to the local little grocery store again for I had a plan. I wanted to get some candy canes to give to the kids off the bus like we did a year or more ago. I chose the candy canes and then thought, huh, I can do better than that, so I also got some cocoa mix, some marshmallows and some of those tree shaped cake things. I took them all to the checkout and then paused. Huh. I'd left my money at home!! :D Ho hum! I walked home and picked up the money DROVE back ( it was getting a bit close for time!) and we put together ten bags of treats with a note. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The note included that the gift was from the neighbor in an attempt to not make it look like I'm trying to sell crack to the kids off the bus. I was leery of the small sized baggies I was using for the 4 marshmallows !! LOL!! I watch too much TV sometimes I think! Anyway, we picked Jack up off his bus and went across the street from our house to the bus that stops there. We waited a little while ( as I said, it was a warm day ) and soon the bus arrived. </div>

It's a dog's life!Today, oh boy. A strange day to start out with. It was very gray and misty, drizzly dampness. Not a very Cheery day that's for sure. Some days when it's gray outside I tend to get a bit low. I don't mean to, I don't even notice it really until I find myself too low to get myself back up. Today was a bit like that. After a lovely cup of tea and a chat with a couple of friends I was able to feel a bit more like myself. I knew that if I went out for a walk I would feel better and I knew if I did an Act of Kindness I would feel TONS better. It does that for you, Acts. You just can't help but feel good inside. I don't think you could be in a bad mood and do one. You certainly couldn't be in a bad mood AFTER you had. So I had a little think and came up with a plan. I nursed miss Millie to sleep and lay her on the couch. Her Daddy stayed home with her and I took the other two kiddoes and the two dogs and we set out in the van on a mission. I decided to pick up some dog treats to take to the dog run today. We decided to stop at our local store in town rather than giving our money to a big box store in the city. I was AMAZED at all the goodies I was able to collect!! <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGELyyETrg6XOfL5V5RBxlWIANoxI_koXX5ZslJZKYqVM8qMU87nanuekwLu4oj_rwgBrDh0hza0AEVbB3Soqm7rkC6nFUcx2uSJCcqoUxPXxDvMCQZQ8qfkt8F8jP7YsEG3kRaA/s1600/10847487_10152433103230740_3923697689146510469_o-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGELyyETrg6XOfL5V5RBxlWIANoxI_koXX5ZslJZKYqVM8qMU87nanuekwLu4oj_rwgBrDh0hza0AEVbB3Soqm7rkC6nFUcx2uSJCcqoUxPXxDvMCQZQ8qfkt8F8jP7YsEG3kRaA/s1600/10847487_10152433103230740_3923697689146510469_o-2.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Quite the haul!<br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;">

</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
So we headed off to the park. Oh my the pooches just love it there!! :D I met a friend from Dog Training Classes there and we walked around with her and her pooch for a while. My dogs ran and ran and ran until they were filthy and exhausted. Just how a dog should be. We had tasked Jack with the task of choosing the recipient of today's gift and he was excited to do his job!<div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We walked around for a while and a nice man stopped and chatted with us about Yogi, our puppy. Jack thought that maybe he would be a perfect person and handed him the package saying "This is for your dog!" </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So anyway, after a good walk in the cold damp air we headed home to watch Aladdin by the fire. When I walked in the door I found Millie and Daddy in an intense game of Chess...</div>

If you haven't tried it yet you really should...! Just a simple act can really brighten someone's day but you'll be amazed at the effect it has on yours!! :D) He's been going to Earl May's Garden Center for the past 6 months, once a month, to attend a little class put on by a lovely lady. They do seasonal things, for Halloween they decorated pumpkins by planting flowers in them, for Christmas they made a lovely table decoration and so on. This was the last class so Jack took along a gift for the teacher. It was basically the same at the one he gave his bus driver, an Eco Coffee Mug, bar of chocolate, packet of Milano cookies, some ground coffee, a hot chocolate mix and an apple cider mix all bagged up with a label on it. He couldn't wait to give it to her! <br />

So after dropping off Jack to his class hubby and I headed out for a coffee at a nearby coffee shop.<br />
I had a delicious pumpkin spice latte which is not usually my thing but BOY did that put a smile on my face and a song in my heart! I was PINGING by the time I was done with it!! As we were waiting for our order I pointed a lady out to hubby. She was further down the line, just ordering, but she was wearing a Union Jack T Shirt under a flannel shirt AND a T.A.R.D.I.S knitted hat!!! <br />

<br />
<br />
I knew what I had to do! :D I paid for her order! I asked the lady who had helped me to figure out what she was ordering and let me pay for it without her knowing it was me! The barista was SO excited to help! She got a big grin on her face and couldn't wait. :D I went to sit down so I wasn't close by when she got her food but I went up a few moments later to pick up my coffee and another lady was exclaiming in surprise! Seems my Dr. Who lady had paid it forward! :D I LOVE when that happens!! I got the joy of starting it out, the lady in the hat got the joy of receiving it AND the joy of spreading it along and then the other lady got the joy of receiving that!! And whilst she didn't pay it forward right away, who's to say that she won't pay it forward in some other way later on... large or small these little things add up. Maybe she'll be in a good mood and let someone ahead of her in traffic? Maybe she'll call a friend for a chat, who knows. It just takes ONE little push to start a ball rolling.<br />
<br />
So the day went on pretty much as usual after that... hubby and I did our weekly shopping and errand running whilst Jess watched the smaller kiddies. We went out for lunch and then came home. I talked to the children about my thoughts regarding scaling back on Christmas. We've been cutting it down and cutting it down each year and it's getting to a point where it feels very manageable. The kids were quite happy with our suggestions and we decided to try it a different way this time. They set to work writing a list of four things they would like. Something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read. <br />
<br />

And so after a nice dinner, some games of chess for Dad and Jess, some games of throw around pom poms and pretend they are hot cookies and throw around cotton balls and pretend they are snowballs for Millie and I it was time for the children to go to bed. And now here I stand. I've done a little ( teensy teensy) bit of Yoga, I'm trying to get back in to my twice daily habit... right now it's down to .... streeeeetch as I reach for something in the pantry! I HAVE mastered the headstand without the wall though and I find that supremely fun!! :D I'm hoping to get a little meditation in before bed but until then it's me and kitty and my blog!!<br />

It was a CRAZY 50 degrees out and I thought a nice walk would be in order. The dogs thought so too. Even Millie was (fairly) willing to put on clo' and go for a ride in her stroller with us. We walked the dogs a bit and then headed to the gas station for today's Random Act. We went into the station and bought three scratch lottery tickets, tucked a $10 bill alongside and put the lot into a ziplock bag which we taped along with a note to a gas pump! At the time the gas station was empty ( which was good, we didn't want to be "choosing" who would get the surprise! ) We headed off home and when I looked back I saw that a car had already pulled up to the pump and a lady had received her gift! I was too far away to see clearly but she must have been happy with it I would have thought?? :D<br />

Later, after snacks consisting of more Christmas cake and a bit of banana bread thrown in I took one of my cakes to the Post Office to mail to my friend Lisa in Michigan. I chatted with our lovely post mistress and she told me that someone had picked up the stamps we left earlier and they were so excited by it that THEY went and bought a book of stamps too and left them for another person! THAT'S the fun part of RAK's. Last year we did one at the Christmas Tree farm and it went on and on and on for 12 more rounds! The tree farm people called me to tell me about it they were so excited. They had such a lot of fun facilitating the whole thing! </div>

I do try to walk them as often as possible but when it's so cold I don't want to take Millie out and so we stay at home. Nevertheless the other evening I was out walking the pooch and happened to notice a house with a New Baby Girl sign in the yard. I had no idea who lived there, it could have been their first child, could have been their fifth, it didn't matter, I knew I wanted to make them a Random Act gift. We bought some pink fleece fabric with white polka dots and made a small knotted blanket.<br />

Speaking of the thought behind things my darling husband came home with a brand new tea pot for me tonight!! I get through tea kettles and tea pots at a rather alarming rate and the one I was currently using is from the 1960's, made in Holland and enamel. I found myself rather alarmed to discover bits of metal flaking off into the tea. That's enough of THAT thought I. New teapot a go go!! :D I keep a private blog called Reasons I Love my Husband. I post things here that make me smile and help me keep in mind all the good things about marriage that sometimes it's easy to forget. It's like a gratitude journal but about him! :D.... So the teapot thing will CERTAINLY be tonight's entry!</div>

We were looking forward to this one as it was a gift to Jack's ( and Jessie's when she went to school!) bus driver! The lovely lady is always to friendly and cheery though I know she is also very firm with the kids. I need her to be firm with the kids. She has my babies on there I need to know she isn't going to be distracted by wild behavior! Anyway, it was Jack's turn to give a gift and Gail's turn to get one!! We'd done a little shopping at HyVee yesterday and put together a fairly respectable little gift bag I think! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
An Eco mug, some ground coffee, some hot chocolate mix, some apple cider mix, a bar of Belgian chocolate and a bag of Milano cookies!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We bagged it all up into a gift bag and Jack waited excitedly for the bus to arrive in the FRIGID air! (I've been driving him down the block to the stop lately, it's crazy cold to have to stand there in the wind...today, for some reason, we thought it would be warm enough to walk down. Hmm. 20 degrees and a north wind? Not so cozy!) </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once the bus arrived he climbed up on board and we all greeted Gail and thanked her for everything she does for the children! She's a lovely lady and I can't imagine doing her job. She deserves every act of kindness she can get! :D </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once Jack was safely off to school Jess and I returned home and once our fingers had defrosted we got to work on some Christmas card writing. I might actually get some out this year! It was very nice to have a helper to write all the envelopes. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We spent a lovely few hours in Diana's beautiful home eating delicious food, drinking hot green tea and sampling muffins that her son had made for us! Millie was starting to get tired and unhappy though. She was coughing and just looked sick. Poor little mite. I packed her back up and headed home with a quick quick quick stop at the library. I had recently got Jess hooked on Janet Evanovich books and she had raced through the first one (One for the Money). Like me Jess hates to be without a book and we don't get to go to the library as much as we would like so I tore in with Millie and went straight to the correct section and picked up Two for the Dough and also Three to Get Deadly... she reads FAST! Back home and naps on the couch all round!</div>

I gave Millie some pineapple that had been soaking in honey for some weeks. It's supposed to work wonders for coughs and sore throats. We'll see how it goes but it certainly tastes delicious and once she got over her initial suspicion, she couldn't get enough! Here's hoping for a good night's sleep!</div>

She developed croup or something and would throw up about every 20 minutes until one in the morning. I finally managed to get her to stop throwing up after I read something online suggesting that she sniff a rubbing alcohol swab. It seemed to work wonders as once I'd had her sniff it she never threw up again! Good to remember I think!! She and I slept together cuddled on the couch and Daddy slept close by on the floor. After one am she was just fine and when she finally woke up in the morning it was as if she had never been sick at all! :D We HAD planned to go to a friend's house today ( Hi Diana!!!) but after chatting with her on the phone we decided that perhaps it was best to give Millie a while and make sure she was really clear. ... So we are going tomorrow!! <br />
<br />
I took Jess and Millie out to the stores this afternoon to pick up some neat things for some future Acts of Kindness.<br />
<br />

<br />
We arrived at Hobby Lobby but Millie was fast asleep so Jess stayed in the car with Millie and a book whilst I entered alone....! It's a good job I knew that I had Jess waiting for me... I tend to lose HOURS in stores like that!! I picked out some of the things I had been looking for then headed with the kids to HyVee where we went crazy picking out some more fun stuff! <br />

</tbody></table>
I have tomorrow's RAK already planned and I can't wait to carry that one out... it's going to be a nice treat for Jack's bus driver..... shhhh!!<br />
<br />
Anyway, after all our errands and what not we headed back home but decided to stop by the Post Office to carry out today's mission! We all went in and visited with the ALWAYS lovely but terribly camera shy Kathy, our Post Mistress. Millie picked out a book of Christmas stamps which we bought but we left for whomever comes to buy a book of stamps next. We did this mission last year too and Kathy was able to tell us about it and she loves to be in on our fun! <br />

Our afternoon ended up with lots of reading and viewing of today's Christmas movie, The Snowman. Millie just couldn't get enough of it and I love how there is no speaking in it, just beautiful art work and lovely music. Very peaceful! Last night's movie was Elf.... Hilarity of course... not QUITE so peaceful but an enormous family favorite! <br />

We've been anxiously awaiting this day to start our Random Acts of Kindness for the season! We don't JUST do it in December but it's certainly more structured this time of year!! We'll do random acts of kindness anytime the mood takes us ( I bought a guy's newspaper and a greetings card at Walgreen's the other day for instance!) ...anyhoo! Today was the first day and our first Random Act of Kindness was a piece of cake! No, literally it was a piece of cake!! :D I had recently offered to make some traditional English Christmas Fruit Cakes for anyone who might want one and was going to sell them for a little extra cash. A friend of mine who lives in another state said she would love one and said she would be passing through Nebraska on Monday (today!) She said if I could manage to get it made she would pick it up on the way home! So I bought the stuff, made the cake and this morning covered it with a layer of marzipan and a thick layer of Royal Icing, just the way my Mama taught me!! She stopped by to collect it and was getting ready to pay me for it when I decided to make her my first RAK of December! One Christmas Cake, free of charge! <br />
<br />
We also put up our RAK tree. For November we made a Thankful tree where we filled leaves with things we were thankful for. This month we made a tree and the decorations are each going to be Random Acts of Kindness that we have performed. :)<br />

My Elvish helper ... somewhat of a goofball, especially when she is high on sugar and frosting!! :D</div>

So there we have it, the first bauble on the tree to symbolize the first Act of the month! </div>

In other news my smallest girl got to work decorating her little tree, the "Yes" tree from last year. She was so excited to decorate it and kept pointing to where she was going to place the next bauble. She would then say "Here!", place the bauble and then give herself two thumbs up before proceeding to the next one. At one point she lay on her stomach on the floor, rested her chin upon her hands and gazed at her handiwork. When Daddy got home she took him by the hand and walked him over to see her tree. "Did YOU do that?" He asked .... "Uh HUH!" she proudly replied!! :D </div>

And yes, for those of you who know her well you will not be in the least surprised to see she is clad only in a diaper. The only way she will wear clothes is if we go outside, even then she can't take them off fast enough once we get home! :D </div>

All in all a lovely day. I managed to get a long walk in with the dogs.... it was about 20 degrees so rather fresh but I felt I needed to feel the cold in my bones. I believe your body needs to KNOW it's cold in winter... it needs to feel the chill and to let the blood cool, if you know what I mean! There's nothing more healthy looking in the winter time than rosy cheeks from being outside in the cold air! Having said that I will say I am VERY grateful for our new furnaces. Very grateful indeed. </div>
